Dear Friend,

Mayor Schaaf's Proposed 2-year Oakland City Budget

Today, at 4pm, Mayor Schaaf will present her proposed 2-year budget for the City. This is an opportunity for you to review her proposed budget and give feed back to the City Council for any changes that you'd like to see be made to the Mayor's proposed budget. To understand the City's budget timeline, please see below picture. To sign up online to speak, please click here OR sign up at the meeting ahead of 8pm and before the item is called.

You can also email me your suggestions directly at and/or attend my District Budget Meeting that will be taking place TOMORROW at Redwood Heights Recreation Center, 3883 Aliso Avenue, Oakland CA 94619.

If you are not able to make tonight or tomorrow night's meetings, please feel free to attend any of the other District budget meeting throughout the City; you'll find the schedule below:

After we hear from the Mayor, the full City Council will Convene into its regularly scheduled City Council meeting

There are many important items on the agenda tonight, including: recognizing many small businesses for their work in Oakland, and the Department of Transportation's 3-year paving plan.

Tonight in support of small business week, I'm recognizing Delightful Foods. Delightful Foods is a family-owned bakery established 25 years ago in the heart of the Fairfax business district. Bilal Sabir, Rafia Yusif and their family of ten, own and operate Delightful Foods, which began as a pie shop that developed into a bakery which specializes in eight varieties of vegan cookies and 13 flavored pies. Delightful Foods is famous for the “No Cookie” cookie, which does not contain dairy, eggs, or wheat, and has been sold at over 400 health food stores, convenience shops, and grocery stores across the United States. Besides bringing joy and happiness to people who eat their cookies and pies, Bilal Sabir and his family continue to make a positive impact in the community by generously supporting local schools and organizations.

Also on tonight's Council agenda is Oakland's 3-year paving plan. Quality of life in Oakland is extremely important to me and we all know that our Oakland streets have been suffering for a very long time now. This is why I spearheaded the charge for more funding for street paving in every Council District. I won this funding in the recent Public Works Committee and hope to have your support as well by contacting your City Councilmember and urging them to support my amendment of increasing the dollar amount to every Council District to the 3-year paving plan.

In service,
